Chrysal × Afdeling Online / RFP 2027

Why Afdeling Online

01 · The right combination for Chrysal

More than a platform.
An extension of the brand.

A new website for Chrysal is not a standalone technical project. It is the place where the brand, knowledge and commercial added value come together. Where a grower, distributor, retailer or other visitor not only finds information, but understands what Chrysal can mean in their own practice.

That is why we bring branding, web development and online marketing together from the outset. Not as three successive assignments, but as one team that translates strategy directly into content, design and implementation. We have known Chrysal for many years. That existing relationship makes it possible not to start from scratch again, but to take a focused next step together.

People in the combination
branding, web & marketing

The capability of a broad team.
The direct communication of a committed core team.

An in-house branding team, web developers and marketing specialists complement one another. This gives us the breadth to oversee the entire challenge and the depth to work through specialist questions properly. For Chrysal, we will establish a compact core team, with additional expertise when needed. Not forty people at the table, but access to the right knowledge.

02 · Three disciplines · one result

A brand that fits. A website that works. Marketing that aligns.

From positioning to brand experience

Branding gives meaning

Chrysal is moving from product supplier to integrated solutions partner. That requires more than a new visual look. We translate the brand promise into language, imagery, navigation and interaction: expert where necessary, accessible where possible and caring in the way we guide visitors.

Concrete elaboration

Brand and design principles, content guidelines and a coherent visual direction for the key customer journeys.

The brand becomes recognisable at every step, not just in the logo at the top of the page.

From complex content to clear routes

Web makes the promise usable

Our web specialists work together with strategy, branding and marketing from the outset. This allows us to test not only whether an idea looks good, but also whether it works logically, is accessible and can be maintained by Chrysal itself. Product information, applications and expertise each receive a clear place within the same platform.

Concrete elaboration

Customer journey-oriented prototypes, a scalable content model and reusable, accessible components with clear management agreements.

Less loss in translation between design and implementation, with a website that remains workable after delivery.

From a visit to a next step

Marketing makes the value measurable

Search intent, campaign context and conversion goals are not an afterthought. We incorporate them into the structure and content. A visitor arriving from Google Ads may have a different question from a returning distributor. The route, explanation and next step must align with this, without losing the coherence of the brand.

Concrete elaboration

A substantiated target audience and customer journey matrix, search and content priorities and a measurement plan for the key interactions and enquiries.

A platform that strengthens existing marketing and for which we can specifically assess what needs to improve.

03 · A head start through existing knowledge

We know more than just the assignment.
We know Chrysal.

We have worked for Chrysal for many years and, through that collaboration, have access to Google Analytics and Google Ads. This gives us a valuable starting point: knowledge of statistics, existing marketing activities, relevant KPIs and the questions visitors arrive with. We connect that knowledge with the experience of Mike and the Chrysal team.

This helps us map out customer journeys properly. We do not start with a generic persona or a blank sketch, but with concrete signals from current practice. We then test and deepen these: what do we already know, what is missing, what differs by target audience or market, and where can the new platform offer the greatest improvement?

01

Understanding existing behaviour

We look in Google Analytics at which pages and routes visitors use, where they drop off and which actions visibly contribute to enquiries. We first check the quality of the configuration and the available consent: not every visit or interaction is fully measurable.

02

Connecting intent and target audience

Google Ads provides additional insight into search queries, campaign themes and the alignment between advertisement and landing page. Together with Mike, we connect those signals to Chrysal’s day-to-day practice: who has which question, at which stage of the chain, and what explanation helps with it?

03

Turning insight into choices

We translate the combined insights into priority customer journeys, content and concrete design decisions. Data shows what happens; conversations with Chrysal and, where necessary, users help explain why. This prevents historical figures from automatically determining the future setup.

The advantage: less time spent reconstructing the context, more time for the choices that move Chrysal forward. Existing insights are revalidated during discovery; historical data is a starting point, not a substitute for current research.

04 · From expertise to understanding

Do not just show who Chrysal is.
Make visible what Chrysal makes possible.

Chrysal’s expertise is extensive, but not self-evident to a visitor. The website must be able to explain complex processes and applications. We therefore see visuals, motion and animation not as decoration added afterwards, but as possible means of making Chrysal’s added value understandable. A clear image can answer a question that would otherwise require several paragraphs.

Making the chain visible

A visual route from grower through trade and retail to the end user makes clear where Chrysal adds value. Visitors can discover relevant applications from their own role, without first having to understand the entire organisation or product catalogue.

Proposal for a chain visual with target audience-specific deeper content.

Explaining processes step by step

A short animation or interactive explanation can show when a solution is applied, what that step means and how it connects to the next phase. We base the explanation on content validated by Chrysal; motion supports understanding and does not suggest unproven product effects.

Storyboard and prototype for one selected process.

Making added value concrete

Instead of merely listing features, we connect applications to a recognisable question from practice. Visual comparisons and annotated images can clarify benefits, provided that claims and any measurement data are substantively supported.

A reusable explanation pattern for application, operation and benefit.

Together, we choose which explanations are truly needed and first test a focused execution. Motion must clarify the story, not hold up the visitor. Readable static alternatives, respect for a preference for reduced motion, accessibility and loading time are part of the assessment. This way, the experience adds brand value without making the platform unnecessarily heavy or complicated.

05 · The platform choice

Why WordPress?

A practical foundation for today. Room for what Chrysal needs tomorrow.

We recommend WordPress because we can translate the strategy, customer journeys and brand experience into a platform that Chrysal can take forward itself. Not rebuilding everything, but combining proven capabilities with a custom library of building blocks. We start with what the new website actually needs and design the content model so that expansion does not require a complete rebuild.

Scalable without building everything in advance

Products, applications, target audiences, languages and markets are given a coherent structure. A new application for potted plants or a new country page thus uses the same foundation, with room for its own content and customer journeys. Reusable blocks, caching and targeted performance tests help the platform grow; more visitors or more complex features sometimes also require additional hosting capacity or development work.

Concrete elaboration

A content model and component library with defined expansion points, tested against the priority customer journeys.

From information platform to e-commerce

We prepare product information and the website architecture for a possible next step towards commerce. For example, first a quotation request or distributor route, later a selected range that can be ordered online. WooCommerce can be a suitable extension for this. We first assess the market, customer type and processes: B2B prices, accounts, stock, payments, logistics and ERP integrations can determine the solution.

Concrete elaboration

A growth path in which the informational website remains the foundation and a later commerce phase is scoped and budgeted separately.

Capturing the knowledge first: a second brain for Chrysal

Before we add an AI assistant, we make the knowledge usable. Product information, application advice, frequently asked questions and approved documents are given fixed fields, interrelationships, a source, language, owner and review date. The block editor handles the presentation; the structured content model forms the knowledge base. This way, information is not just stored in separate pages or people's heads, but becomes a managed ‘second brain’ that people and, later, AI can consult.

Concrete elaboration

A knowledge structure with content types, source references, agreements on keeping information up to date and a clear separation between public information and internal knowledge.

Adding AI when the foundation is right

WordPress offers options for connecting a knowledge search tool or AI assistant via APIs. It can look up answers in the approved knowledge base and display the sources consulted, rather than relying solely on general model knowledge. We start with a clearly scoped application and assess answer quality, language, costs and privacy. Internal documents are not automatically made public; access is also checked when retrieving information. If there is insufficient evidence, the assistant does not give definitive advice and refers users to Chrysal.

Concrete elaboration

A possible follow-up phase with a clearly scoped knowledge search tool or assistant, content validation and agreements on access, management and costs.

Security in multiple layers: Cloudflare and reverse proxy

We propose Cloudflare as a reverse proxy in front of the hosting, with appropriate firewall rules, DDoS protection, encrypted connections and rate limiting where necessary. The underlying server is configured so that public requests cannot easily bypass this protection. Cloudflare does not replace secure WordPress management: updates, a limited plugin selection, minimum access rights, MFA for administrators, monitoring and tested backups remain necessary. Caching is also tailored to forms and any account or order pages.

Concrete elaboration

A security and management plan with verified configuration, recovery tests and explicit agreements on monitoring, updates and incident follow-up. No promise of absolute security.

Hosting with demonstrable agreements and ISO standards

We propose hosting with a provider with demonstrable ISO 27001 certification for the relevant hosting offering. We check current validity, certificate holder and scope before making the choice: a certified data centre does not automatically mean that every hosting service or the website itself is certified. We record data location, processing agreements, backup retention, recovery objectives, availability and support separately. We only mention additional standards if they are demonstrable for the selected service.

Concrete elaboration

Hosting advice to be confirmed, with certificate verification and concrete service agreements. The supplier, certifications and SLA are not yet established guarantees in this draft proposal.

Freedom where it helps. Boundaries where they protect.

Not every team member needs the same editing freedom. We propose a permissions matrix aligned with daily tasks, with protected blocks and patterns. We demonstrate and test these roles with real Chrysal content; different permissions per market or language may require additional configuration.

Mike · central coordination

Mike gets more freedom to compose pages, combine approved blocks and choose variants within the brand guidelines. Publication and approval are aligned with his coordinating role; plugin, code and security management are not standard editorial tasks.

Flexible assembly using approved blocks

Team members · fixed building blocks

Team members work with fixed templates and protected patterns: adjusting text, images and permitted content without unintentionally changing the page structure or brand style. If necessary, we restrict tasks to their own markets, languages or content types; we agree publication rights per role.

Editing content within fixed patterns

Technical management · specialists

Technical specialists manage the block library, integrations, updates and security settings. New functionality and changes to the system configuration remain controlled development and management work.

Technical system administration

First, organize knowledge and day-to-day management properly. Then expand where it demonstrably adds value.

Our conviction · Afdeling Online

Illustrative example · from knowledge to a next step

Chrysal adds an approved application for potted plants. A team member enters product details, application, questions and sources in a fixed template. Mike uses the available blocks to compose a page aimed at a target audience, with explanations, a visual and a contact action. The same structured knowledge can later be made accessible to an assistant that guides visitors to the right advice. If online sales are desired, a commerce phase can follow, after assessment of the product range and ordering process.

This is a possible implementation, not an already realised solution. E-commerce and an AI assistant are future expansion options, not automatically included in the website quotation. The permissions matrix, Cloudflare configuration and hosting agreements will be confirmed before implementation.

06 · The intended core team

The people behind the approach.

A compact team with recognizable faces and complementary roles. Below are the public job titles at Afdeling Online and the proposed contribution to this challenge. Mike communicates directly with the specialist who can answer his question; the substance does not have to pass through multiple layers first.

07 · Practical collaboration

Mike’s knowledge.
Directly connected to the right specialist.

The greatest value arises when existing knowledge and new expertise meet directly. Mike does not have to have a question about a customer journey translated by an account management layer first, only for a designer or developer to ask it again. We organize the substantive discussion with specialists on an equal footing, close to the work. This makes the process more practical, preserves nuances and allows us to reach a good execution more quickly.

1

Mike contributes Chrysal’s practical perspective

Mike brings together market knowledge, internal priorities and questions from the organisation. We use that knowledge directly in working sessions with the specialists who actually develop the solution. No extensive chain of briefings before a substantive conversation can begin.

What this delivers

A shared starting point: target audiences, goals, key questions and choices that remain open.

2

Specialists work together as equals

The online strategist, branding and web specialists discuss substantive considerations directly with Mike. A customer journey question is immediately connected to content, design, technology and measurability. We bring the right expertise to the table for the issue, not everyone to every meeting by default.

What this delivers

Substantiated choices and workable prototypes, with implications for scope and execution immediately visible.

3

Brief reviews, focused execution

We show the work early, discuss feedback on actual elaborations and record decisions concisely. Coordination remains necessary for planning, dependencies and budget, but serves execution. Mike does not have to act as a conduit between separate disciplines.

What this delivers

Short feedback loops, clear owners and as little duplicate explanation and handover as possible.

4

Knowledge stays with both teams

Decisions, design principles and management agreements are recorded in shared documentation. We involve the people who will publish content and assess results during the project itself. This makes the platform not just something we create for Chrysal, but something the Chrysal team can continue working with independently.

What this delivers

A transferable platform with practical documentation and training on daily tasks.

Not a promise of no coordination. But an agreement that coordination makes the work easier, rather than inserting an extra layer.

08 · Relevant experience · BOVAG

A strong brand in an organization
with multiple interests and target audiences.

BOVAG is an important reference for us for a brand that does not serve one end user with one simple message. As a trade association, BOVAG primarily works for affiliated businesses, including garages and bicycle businesses. At the same time, the brand plays a role for consumers, who look for trust and quality at an affiliated business. The direct target audience and the ultimate user are therefore not the same person.

This requires an understanding of different interests: the organization, existing members, potential members and the public that encounters the brand. The brand promise and communication must be consistent, while the content and available courses of action differ by target audience. According to the public case study, Afdeling Online has worked with BOVAG for years; the specifically described assignment concerns BOVAG Fiets.

For Chrysal, we recognize a similar challenge in connecting supply chain parties and end users. Not because the markets are identical, but because here too the meaning of the brand must become clear for each role. A platform must guide these differences without falling apart into separate stories.

What the official case study substantiates

BOVAG Fiets · from strategy to implementation

Following a strategic session, Afdeling Online developed four personas: the regional bicycle dealer, local bicycle entrepreneur, niche bicycle entrepreneur and new entrepreneur. Customer journeys and landing pages were developed for each target audience, connected to a cross-media approach and targeted email follow-up.

The campaign concept “Alles op de rit met BOVAG” gave the strategy a recognizable creative expression. Marketing automation connected downloads and landing pages to follow-up towards membership. The case study thus demonstrates the combination of strategy, concept development, web and marketing — not an isolated technical delivery.

The relevance to Chrysal

Distinguishing different target audiences, translating their questions into customer journeys and connecting those routes to one brand story. That is exactly the coherence we also want to achieve for Chrysal.

Read the official BOVAG Fiets case study

BOVAG was supplied by Afdeling Online as a branding reference. The public case study substantiates strategy, concept development and marketing for BOVAG Fiets; we do not present this as a complete BOVAG rebranding or as evidence of an identical global platform rollout.

10 · Our contribution to the process

More coherence. Less lost in translation.
A practically workable result.

The right expertise at the right time

The core team safeguards coherence. For more in-depth work, developers, SEO, analytics or content specialists, for example, join when the task requires it. The proposed staffing and availability will be confirmed before the start.

Transparent considerations

We make clear which choice contributes to the goal, what it requires in time and budget and what could also be simpler. Any additional animation production is first scoped and budgeted; these examples do not automatically add extra scope to the quotation.

Continuity without dependency

Shared documentation, replacement arrangements and handover prevent crucial knowledge from remaining with one person. Chrysal retains control over its own content and accounts; manageability is tested during the project.

Chrysal gets not a collection of separate disciplines, but a partner that uses existing knowledge, understands the brand and keeps implementation close at hand. That is why Afdeling Online fits this challenge.
